Grieving, the townsfolk went to the battlefield to collect the bodies of their loved ones. Up until this day, the only deaths in Sistrine had been those caused by old age, disease, and through those lost to battles against marauding creatures. This battle unleashed a deep sadness in the hearts of the Sistrineans. They placed the bodies of the fallen, the barbarians as well as those who had died defending the town, in the catacombs. The priests stayed and held vigil over the dead, while the townsfolk returned to mourn their loss in the privacy of their own homes.
As the sun rose the next day, the priests who had been standing vigil realised to their horror that the catacombs were empty. Not one of them had shut an eye throughout the night, but regardless of this the bodies were gone! Terrified and grief struck, they hurried to the temple to talk with the priests and priestesses, fearful of how they were going to reveal the loss of the bodies to the families of the city. As they approached the temple, they seemed to perceive an unusual amount of noise. As they came closer, they saw people standing around, soldiers, fighters. All of the soldiers looked dazed, confused. Some were slightly wounded. But strangest of all, some of them were extricating themselves from funeral shrouds. The further they got into the temple, the more numerous the warriors were. As the vigil keepers came to the central hall of the temple, they saw that Kelara's stone was pulsing with a gentle blue light, out of which one dazed figure after another stepped. The priests were escorting each new arrival into other rooms.
Suddenly there was the noise of a great crowd forming outside of the temple - angry voices could be heard, and the wails of mourning women - the townsfolk had realised that the bodies had disappeared from the crypts. These voices suddenly hushed. Then laughter and joyful shouts echoed through the courtyard as they realised that their loved ones had returned to them.
No one is sure what happened to Lekaran and Kelara. However, their disappearances led to two major changes within Sistrine; the first, and perhaps the greatest was the gift of reincarnation. While the old still passed away, those who were favoured by Sistrina and fell in battle no longer needed to fear death. The other change was discovered later. While everyone knew what had happened to the stone from Kelara's staff, no-one knew what had happened to the stone from Lekaran's axe. It was later discovered in the Watchtower in the centre of the city. All who saw it and felt its rays were filled with a desire for peace - so much so, that weapons were never drawn against fellow travellers within the city. The town mourned the loss of Lekaran and Kelara, and in their honour they erected statues in the Square in front of the Watchtower, which are there to this day. The Watchtower Stone, the stone of Sistrina in the Temple along with these statues provide evidence that these legends contain at least a kernel of truth.
